The 7 C’s to Build a Winning Team

You Win in the Locker Room FirstIn lieu of writing an article this week, I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of the launch team for the newest work from team consultant guru, Jon Gordon.  I’m spending the week with a preview copy of You Win in the Locker Room First: The 7 C’s to Build a Winning Team in Business, Sports, and Life which Gordon co-authored with NFL Coach Mike Smith. I’ve referenced some of Gordon’s previous works before on 3PointWisdom in It All Started Back in Training Camp (May 28, 2013) and Hoop Trust (Sept. 18, 2014) and I always pick up something I can use with our team.  More importantly, I find principles to follow with my family, in my work, and in my faith walk.  Gordon’s work is also practical, inspirational, and easily applied to any team.  Without a doubt, he has captured the essence of effectively working with the athletes of today.

Gordon & Smith

Mike Smith provides an added dimension as he willingly shares insight from his coaching career which most prominently includes his terrific rebuilding of the Atlanta Falcons.  As a life-long Packer fan, it’s not always easy for me to dive into other organizations, but Smith’s experiences fit perfectly with Gordon’s strategies and the vulnerability he demonstrates as he relates his failures as well as his successes provide instant credibility

I’ll be spending the weekend re-reading and taking notes and I encourage you to pick up a copy as soon as you can.  The official release date is September 21, but you still have a quick chance for Jon’s Pre-Order Offer.

And to pique your interest, you probably want a glimpse of the 7 C’s. I’m not going to steal their thunder with explanations, but these are spot on and I love their thoughts about CULTURE!

Culture   Contagious   Consistent   Communicate   Connect   Commitment   Care

I’ll certainly refer to these throughout the coming basketball season, but I challenge you to explore Gordon and Smith’s ideas for yourself and I want to encourage you to take them beyond your team and find applications in all areas of your life and faith.
